What is Carbon Steel

Generally, Carbon steel contain less than 1.00% carbon, along with other elements which may include Mn (0.50 – 1.00%), Si (0.20 – 0.70%), P (0.05% max ), and S (0.06% max). In addition, carbon steels, regardless of whether they are cast or wrought, may contain small percentages of other elements as residuals from raw materials or additives incorporated in the steelmaking process.
There are three classes of commercial carbon steel castings:
Low-Carbon steels (C , 0.05-0.3% ), with high ductility and ease of forming;
Medium-Carbon steels (C between 0.30% and 0.60%), in which heat teratment can double the strength and hardness bu tretain good ductility;
High-Carbon steels (C 0.60% min), it has great hardness and high strength, mainly sued for tools, dies, springs, etc.
