Duplex Stainless Steel – Properties, Grades & Manufacturing
All you need to know about Duplex Stainless Steel to explore our casting technologies below. Our company covers a wide range of casting technologies, from traditional sand casting to high-precision investment casting and sand casting solutions.
What is Duplex Stainless Steel
A duplex stainless steel is defined as one that contains a two-phase structure and is more often a descriptor of an alloy where both phases are present in significant quantities. Combine some of the best features of austenitic and the ferritic grade, it has excellent chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance. its comprised of approximately 50% ferrite and 50% austenite. Duplex stainless steel names often reflect their chemical composition or are proprietary designations. Generally, there are two families: duplex stainless steel and super dulex stainless steel.
Ferrite levels are not specified, but these alloys will develop a range of approximately 30 to 60 % ferrite with the balance austenite.
There are more than 200 different grades of stainless steel. but there are five families of stainless steel: Austenitic Stainless Steel, Ferritic Stainless Steel, Martensitic Stainless Steel, Duplex Stainless Steel, and Precipitation-hardening Stainless Steel.
